S.P.E.M. Prayer

I bow my knees to the Father . . . that He would grant you . . . to be strengthened with might through His Spirit. —Ephesians 3:14,16

A friend sent me an e-mail that concluded with a list of prayer requests. She said, “Spiritually, I am confused, so pray for understanding. Physically, I am tired, so pray for rest. Emotionally, I am very weak, so pray for strength. Mentally, I am worried, so pray for peace.”

When I saw her later, I told her, “I’ve been SPEM praying for you.” She looked confused, so I told her I was praying for her spiritual, physical, emotional, and mental well-being.

Scripture illustrates God’s care in each of these areas.

Spiritual: Jesus prayed for His disciples: “Sanctify them by Your truth” (John 17:17). Truth leads to spiritual understanding, eliminating confusion.

Physical: Peter had a physical need—release from jail. His friends prayed—and he got out (Acts 12:1-11). In God’s care we find security and rest (Ps. 16:9).

Emotional: Often the psalmists asked God for relief from distress (4:1; 18:6; 107:6-7). He brings hope.

Mental: Insight and wisdom are promised for those who cry out to God (Prov. 2:3-6; James 1:5-7). Through prayer and reading His Word, the peace of God can be found.

The Lord Is My Shephered - Psalm 23:1-6

"The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want." I may be the weakest of the sheep, but I shall not want. I may be the dumbest, I may wander and stray, I may grow old and feeble; but I shall not want. I may not have all that I desire or wish, but I shall not want. I will endure trial, sickness and sorrow, I will walk through this valley of death, and I will one day stand before God's throne, but I shall not want. My Shepherd is able to save to the uttermost, to do all that He promised, to keep that which I have committed to Him, and to present me faultless before His throne, I shall not want.

My Life Has Been A Roller Coaster Ride

As i look back on my life this past year I am amazed at how God has transformed me into the woman I am today. Last year at this time I was still struggling with the temptations of this world and dealing with the conformity of this world falling into Satan's traps. I was humbled by my creator and found a new meaning of what it means to live for the Lord. I had just made a decision to turn my life back in the direction that i knew it should have been in all along, and thought that it would be a good way to start. I found what it means to live by faith. I met other believers that had gone through the same struggles that I had just gone through in my life. They were able to minister to me in a way that I had never been ministered to before. I saw what the church is supposed to be, how believers are supposed to support one another.I met few of the person that I've seen they are fulfilling the works God has planted to them, and grew closer to some I already have.
The Lord showed me that he had already forgiven me. His arms were open to me to run into and he would lead me in my journey. I had to forgive myself. I was holding myself back by holding onto my sin that I had committed. It was like I felt like I had to hold it over my head or I would do it again. The Lord brought me closer to him and I didn't want to do anything to mess it up.
Over this past year he has shown me that I have to forgive myself in order to serve the way he wants me to. I cannot possible minister to others, when I am holding myself back with guilt of the past. The Lord has restored my heart. Every piece of my heart that had been broken he has rebuilt. Every hole has been filled, and I am over flowing with his love. Even these last couple of weeks I feel like he has been pouring into me and I love the feeling of almost bursting with the joy of the Lord.
This year, I feel like the Lord has shown me my purpose, share his love. I know, it's basic, and it's in the Bible, but he has truly revealed to me how important it is.
Finding my purpose in life has been a roller coaster ride, but I know God has been right beside me the whole time. He has put people in my life to help guide me along, and to those people I will be forever grateful.!

God Is The Strength of My Heart

My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak,

As I read this passage this verse stood out to me, as if God was literally sitting right beside me whispering it in my ear. This promise is one that I will always hold on to; HE IS MINE FOREVER. I don't know about you, but that is encouraging, comforting, and amazing that he would give us himself. He is our strength. I cannot say how many times within the last week I have had to rely on the Lord for my strength to make it through my situation. He always sees me through, no matter how small the trial in my life.

I hope this verse encourages you as much as it has me. Apply it to your own life. What has God done for you lately? How has he been your strength when you have failed and grown weak? Isn't it amazing that he is ours forever!

Unspeakable Peace

“In all your ways acknowledge him.” Proverbs 3:6

It’s a familiar verse. One we are often quick to quote and slow to apply. And yet, if obeyed, it can produce peace in your soul and mine during busy seasons. Charles Bridges’ provides fresh insight into this little verse. Consider his comments carefully:

"Take one step at a time, every step under Divine warrant and direction. Ever plan for yourself in simple dependence on God. It is nothing less than self-idolatry to conceive that we can carry on even the ordinary matters of the day without his counsel. He loves to be consulted...Consider no circumstances too clear to need his direction. In all thy ways, small as well as great; in all thy concerns, personal or relative, temporal or eternal, let him be supreme. Who of us has not found the unspeakable 'peace' of bringing to God matters too minute or individual to be entrusted to the most confidential ear?"

Proverbs 3:6 is our go-to verse when we’re faced with a big decision. We are often quick to acknowledge the Lord and seek His guidance in extraordinary situations. However, we assume we can “carry on…the ordinary matters of the day without his counsel.” God calls this self-idolatry and pride.
How often I live as if I don’t need God in order to made a decisions, or ask for an advise—as if I am sufficient in and of my self to handle most things! My lack of dependence upon God is pronounced in these “ordinary matters.”

And yet, as Mr. Bridges points out, “God loves to be consulted…no circumstance [is] too clear to need his direction!” He wants us to bring to him all our little decisions, our minor frustrations, our small dilemmas. He doesn’t just tolerate our questions—God LOVES to be consulted! Hasn’t he commanded us to acknowledge Him in all our ways?

A season of busyness may tempt you to anxiety, but as Christians, we are truly meant to experience peace in our souls each and every day. This precious, “unspeakable peace,” comes when we bring to God all of the ordinary matters of our day. 

So what were you going to do next? Before you get up from your computer, pause, read this verse and quote again, and acknowledge Him. Unspeakable peace can be yours for the rest of the day.

My Parents Hate My Boyfriend, HELP!

I have the most wonderful boyfriend in the whole world. Theres only one problem: my parents hate him! They want us to break up. What should I do?

The very same thing happened to me when I was in high school. A guy that I had known all throughout high school suddenly became more than a friend. Rich and I started a romantic relationship, but when I told my parents about it, they were less than pleased. My parents thought that we were too young to be in a serious relationship. So, we tried to break things off and just be friends.

It didnt work too well. We couldnt stand being apart, so we started going out behind my parents backs. Even though I really loved Rich and enjoyed the romance, I was miserable! My relationship with my parents suffered, and my relationship with the Lord really suffered. In the end, Rich and I were so unhappy about the whole situation that we decided to come clean with my parents.


They handled it well, but they told us we had to break up for good. This time, we obeyed them completely. That was one of the most difficult times of my life. I missed my boyfriend so much!
We didnt even talk for a year and a half. But when my parents saw that we obeyed them, they reconsidered the possibility of Rich and me getting back together. To make a long story short, Rich and I won my parents trust and eventually got married with their whole-hearted approval.

Heres the moral of the story: When you do things your way, you end up in misery. When you do things Gods way, you end up happy. Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galations 6:7-9

God has commanded children to obey their parents. As long as your parents do not ask you to sin, you should obey them. If you dont like their decision, you can make a humble appeal to them to change their minds. And you can always pray that God will change their hearts and minds (Proverbs 21:1). But if they dont change, you will have to accept their decision. Sometimes it will be extremely difficult and cause us personal pain to obey God and obey our parents. But its the right thing to do. God promises that if you obey, in the end, you will have a long and happy life (Ephesians 6:3).
